su kwan
The Su kwan is a traditional Lao ritual, held to commemorate the passage of special occasions, to maintain balance and ground the human body.
It materializes the intangible; the passing of time and the sharing of wishes.
In its original form, participants are gifted cotton strings from a flower tower, which are then attached as a bracelet and worn until they brake.
Working with glass, paralells the ephemeral nature of this ritual, as well as the execution of it. The fragile glass strings on the glass flower are to be gifted from one participant to another, along with blessings and
wishes, as a grounding practice for transitional life events and are kept until they brake.
Traditionnaly a sukwan is mostly held at home, at anytime, whenever life happens.
The glass string is then kept to bring luck and as a tangible reminder of life changing.
